The third instalment of the Hate Story franchise, starring Karan Singh Grover, Sharman Joshi, Zareen Khan and Daisy Shah, follows its predecessors. After giving a high dose of romance, thrill and intimacy in the second series, director Vishal Pandya has said that the third instalment will have four times more of all these elements.
'When you make a franchise, the expectation is always more', Vishal was recently quoted saying. However, Hate Story 3,which comes across as a sad rip-off of Indecent Proposal, through its trailer appears to be all about lust, sex with a random revenge plot thrown in between. And somebody who, we hear is getting unnerved by all this is the film's writer, Vikram Bhatt, who had earlier produced and written the story and screenplay of the erotic thriller,Hate Story (2012) with Nikhil Dwivedi, Gulshan Devaiya and Paoli Dam in lead roles. Further, Vikram had also produced the second instalment, Hate Story 2. Apparently, Vikram is not too happy about Hate Story 3, (which has been produced by T-Series) being portrayed as a 'sleaze fest' with heavy doses of sex in its promos and promotional songs. The rumours going round in the industry is, that he had written a thriller and given the makers a 'good story' but the end result looks something totally different, far from what he had imagined. Says Vikram, "I have written the script and given it to them. I am not in touch with the producers. Now, how they want to make and promote is their choice, with whatever amount of sleaze in it. But yes, my script is certainly not about sex or sleaze. I have not seen the film yet."
Probe him further if he is unhappy with the end result and that whether his story-line has been turned and twisted, Vikram says, "Look, it is not about being happy or unhappy. I can’t decide what they want to do with the product. It is not my look out. I can only say that it's a good story with much more to it than sex or sleaze." He continues, "Let’s not confuse the issue. One person’s erotica is the other person’s sleaze. There are always these holier than thou people...Now, I have no opinion on how a filmmaker would want to get his money back. If T-Series feels that this is the route to the film's promotion, why should I put up a red flag? Even I have made films which lot of people had called sleazy, for instance, Raaz and Kasoor... so there will always be some purists; But the fact is that the film's trailer is getting 10 million views. People watch what they want. Now Grand Masti did 100 crore business. So what does one say or do?
